With pendular axles, the swinging axle is the axle through with you transmit power (torque) to the wheels (except if you insert a trick like Zblj did here : http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/zblj/Trial/Trialtruck8/imgp4466.jpg).
If you use a turntable to do the swinging job, your "power" axle (the lego axle) is less stressed, improving the efficiency of your truck. Just take this picture (from Nico71) as an example : http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/nico71/Trial-Truck/Lada-Niva-4x4/Frame/dscf4226.jpg
